Thanks card by Sarah de Guzman
“Thanks” card by Sarah de Guzman

1. Start off by cutting out the backbone to your card; this can be either cardstock or patterned paper. The dimension I used was 4.5″x9″. Fold paper in half to get a square-shaped card.
2. Cut out a piece of cardstock with dimensions 4.25″x4.25″.
3. Distress the edges of the 4.25″x4.25″ cardstock with an ink of your choice.
4. Adhere the 4.25″x4.25″ cardstock to the front of your card.
5. Cut out nine 1″x1″ squares using different patterned papers.
6. Arrange squares in rows of 3×3.
7. Adhere each square symmetrically; use a pop up foam adhesive on the middle square to add dimension.
8. Wrap some ribbon around the middle square to give it color.
9. Thread twine in and out of button holes, and then tie a bow on the top of the button.
10. Adhere the button to the center.
11. Add sentiment with stickers below the center square.

Thread Spirograph
Thread Spirograph tutorial by Kari Ann Sweeney

1. Draw a circle on the back side of your paper. My circle is 8 1/2″ in diameter.
2. Measure and draw spots for your holes. I made mine 1 inch apart. There are 27 holes. Be sure to number the holes 1 through 27.
IMG_7062
3. Punch your holes.
4. Prep your floss. You’ll need a lot of floss. I used 5ft. sections and used three strands each. You will need a total of four 5 ft sections with 3 strands each.
5. On the back side bring your floss through at #1. Go across the front and down through #10. On the backside go over and through #11. Go across the front to #2.
IMG_7066
6. You will repeat the “across front” (AF) and “over on the back” (OB) from here on out. Each hole will have thread going through it twice to create a peak/point.

1. On kraft cardstock paint or use ink to cover approximately 1/3 of the paper without going all the way to the edges
2. Cut October Afternoon Blue and White Motel Paper to 5″x10″.  Tear right edge. Adhere to painted section of cardstock, polka dot side up.
3. Adhere 4×6 photo to left hand side polka dot paper, leave about an inch to the left
4. Adhere 10″ of red Jillibean Soup ric-rac to left hand side of layout, about an inch and a half from the edge, layered on top of patterned paper.
5. Cover chipboard star with JillibeanSoup Mixed veggies patterned paper, sand andpaint edges.  Wrap twine around star and tie in a bow.  Adhere to the upper left hand corner of photo.
6. Make a border strip with a scrap of the mixed veggies paper using fiskars apron lace punch.  For more information on this technique, check out this video. Adhere to layout.
7. Adhere small scrap 1″x5″ or so strip of stripe side of Blue&White Motel paper.  Place label sticker to the right.
8. Add title using stamps and Jenni Bowlin alpha stickers.
9. Embellish with Jenni Bowlin star stickers.

“New 6th Grader” by Jenn Emch

1. We are building this layout on the Jillibean Soup kraft paper with the numbers on it.
2. Next, cut the orange report card out from the Jillibean Soup paper. Then cut out .5 inches of the navy report card. Save the rest of it to use in the next step.
3. Place the .5 strip of the navy report card, then the orange report card, then a 4×6 photo, then the opposite side of the navy report card (the argyle side)in the middle of the layout and adhere.
4. Using a circle punch, punch out the letters A, B, C from the Jillibean Soup alphabet paper. Adhere the A and B to the left side of your photo and the C to the right side.
5. Next, the title. I used one of the October Afternoon labels and placed part of my title with the Jenni Bowlin small circle alphas on top of it. I finished the title with the larger red and white Jenni Bowlin letters.
6. Next, I took the smaller Jenni Bowlin chipboard star and covered it with the red with white flowered Jillibean Soup paper.
7. I threaded some of the red gingham ribbon through the yellow button and added it to the star with a glue dot.
8. I added some journaling to the orange report card and called it done!

“Country Girl” by Rita Oliverio

1.  Use JBS Die-Cut Label Paper as your background.
2.  Hand-cut an approximately 9 inch circle from the October Afternoon Blue & White Motel patterned paper.  I used a paper plate as a guide.
3.  Place your circle, polka-dot side up, overlapping the lower left hand corner of the JBS Die-Cut Paper .  Using the inside border as a guide, lightly trace the pattern and cut out.
4.  Distress edges of circle.
5.  Cut a 2 inch slit on the top right corner of your circle.  Fold the edges over to create two flaps.  Distress the edges of the flaps.
6.  Cut a piece of the JBS Vintage Black Bookprintpatterned paper to fit behind the opening in your circle.  Distress the edge and wrinkle it.  Adhere it to the back of your circle.
7.  Adhere your circle in the lower right hand corner of the JBS Die-Cut Label Paper.
8.  Place the October Afternoon cardstock “Photograph” sticker to the left of the opening in your circle.  Layer a 4×6 photo over it.
9.  Layer your second photo (approximately 2.5 by 3.75 inches) over the right side of your 4×6 photo.
10.  Tie together the two ends of the Jillibean Soup ABC ribbon.  Cut off the excess so you have a ribbon approximately 4 inches in length.  Adhere overlapping your 4×6 photo as shown.
11.  Place the October Afternoon cardstock sticker over the end of the ribbon and your smaller photo.  Add a caption.
12.  Cut a 1 by 8 inch strip from the October Afternoon Blue & White Motel patterned paper using the striped-side as a guide.  Cut the left end of your paper strip to create a banner effect, as shown.
13.  Journal directly on your strip.  Let your ink dry so it doesn’t smear, and distress the edges and loosely wrinkle your journaling strip.
14.  Loosely adhere below your 4×6 photo to create a dimensional effect.
15.  Select a vintage flashcard to use for your layout.   For mine, I sewed a button on for a zero and punched a number 9 out of the October Afternoon Skyline Motor Inn patterned paper to record the date.  I used mounting tape to raise the number 9.  If the numbers on your vintage flashcard don’t relate to your layout in any way (date, age, theme, etc.) simply adhere it, overlapping your 4×6 photo, with mounting tape or pop-dots for a fun embellishment.
16.  Sew a green button on the right flap on the top of your circle.  Sew a second green button on the right side of your journaling strip.
17.  Wrap the Jillibean Soup twine back andforth around the two buttons.
18.  Use the JBS Red Trim Cardstock Alpha Stickers for your title andwrap it around your circle.

Personalized ID Tags by Michelle Whitlow

These tags are super easy and a lot of fun to make. I like to make these to put on my kids’ bookbags & lunch bags. I also make these to put on all of our suitcases & bags when we travel. My kids love ‘em. I purchased some badge holders, they usually come in a pack of 10 and you can buy them at Staples, Office Max, Kinkos, etc.
1. Trim your paper or cardstock to fit the badge (these ones measure 2 1/2″ x 3 1/4″). I used the new Jillibean Soup paper that came with the kit as the base of the tag and trimmed a couple strips of the other coordinating papers to put along the bottom.
2. I printed out my kids’ names, stamped a circle and punched it out.
3. Add some stitching, twine & ribbon and you have your own personalized tag!

August 2009 Project Instructions

Make a Wish by Rita Oliverio
“Make a Wish” by Rita Oliverio

1.  Use 12×12 Bazzill Kraft cardstock as your background.
2.  Cut the Crate Paper Enchanted patterned paper to 7 by 10 ¼ inches. Ink the edges with a dark brown ink. Adhere (circle-side up) approximately 1 inch from the right side and ¾ inch from the top on your Kraft background paper.
3.  Use a border punch to cut a 10 ¼ inch strip from the Crate Paper Slate patterned paper (striped-side).  Adhere and position the strip just under the Enchanted patterned paper.
4.  Gather your photos.  I used a 2 ½ by 3 ¾ and a 4×6 photo for this page.  Adhere your 4×6 photo approximately ½ inch from the right border and 2 inches from the bottom border of the Enchanted patterned paper.
5.  Cut a piece of the Sassafras Pleasantly Puzzled patterned paper on the crossword side that is 5 boxes wide by two boxes high.
6.  Cut three small squares from the Hambly grid rub-on to fit inside the crossword boxes and adhere the rub-on to three random squares.
7.  Adhere the piece of the Pleasantly Puzzled patterned paper to the left of your 4×6 photo, approximately two inches down from the top of your photo, slightly overlapping the striped border.  There may be a small gap between the paper and your photo but it will be covered with the flower/stem.
8.  Adhere your second smaller photo overlapping your 4×6 photo and your Pleasantly Puzzled patterned paper.
9.  Cut a strip from the Crate Paper Enchanted patterned paper (vine-side up) approximately 5 inches long, using the vine pattern as a guide.  Use your scissors to angle the bottom of your stem to match the angle of the circle-patterned paper.
10.  Adhere your stem slightly overlapping both your photo and the Pleasantly Puzzled patterned paper, allowing the stem to hang down approximately one inch below your photo.
11.  Using a pencil, lightly draw a leaf for your flower.  Use your paper piercer to punch holes along your pencil lines.  Gently erase your pencil lines and hand-stitch your leaf.
12.  Adhere one of your ormolu tags as your flower.
13.  Adhere a small piece of the Maya Road pom-pom trim below the Pleasantly Puzzled patterned paper.
14.  Adhere journaling strips around the shape of the leaf.
15.  Use Jenni Bowlin chalkboard letter stickers for your title above your 4×6 photo.
16.  Chose two pieces from the Sassafras paper whimsies to use to build your flower in the upper right corner.  My larger flower was hand-cut from the Sassafras blossomed patterned paper, using one of the paper whimsies as a guide.  Adhere your larger flower off the right edge of your Kraft background.  Use an exacto knife to trim the flower flush with the right side of your layout.
17.  Hand-stitch some lines in the center of the smaller paper whimsy.  Adhere it to the center of your larger flower with a pop-dot or piece of 3-d foam.
18.  Cut a piece of the Maya Road pom-pom trim and adhere between your large and small flower pieces.
19.  Adhere one yellow ticket below your 4×6 photo, slightly overlapping your photo and flower stem.  Include additional journaling or dates.
20.  Rub-on corner flourish from the top of the Hambly rub-on sheet in the lower right corner of the Enchanted patterned paper.
21.  Hand-stitch three cross-stitches overlapping the Enchanted patterned paper and Kraft cardstock in the lower right-hand corner.

1. We will be building this layout on the Jenni Bowlin brown dot paper.
2. Cut a piece of the Sassafras Vintage Yummy Blossomed paper to 4″x12″.  Place in the middle of your page.
3. Next, place a Jenni Bowlin bingo card on the right edge of the strip of Sassafras Blossomed paper. Place a 3.5″x2.5″ photo next to it.
4. Place two more Bingo cards on the right side of the Sassafras Blossomed strip of paper. You should have a space in the middle of your patterned paper strip (see picture).

You Are Delightful by Kari Ann Sweeney
“You are Delightful” by Kari Ann Sweeney

Supplies: Kraft paper, Pink Paislee Captivating Lovely paper, Prima Marketing Mommy & Me paper, American Crafts Thickers, Jenni Bowlin alphabet, Prima flower and packaging, paint & ribbon.

Photos: (1) 4 x 6 vertical, (3) small vertical.  If you don’t have photo editing software like Photo Shop, Picasa is a free software download. I used Picasa to edit the color and size of these three photos to print on one 4 x 6 print.

1. Take your cardboard Prima Marketing flower packaging to create a decorative edge along the Pink Paislee Captivating Lovely paper. Trace in pencil and repeat 3 times across the paper. Cut by hand. Ink the edges. Trim to 2 3/16.”
DelightfulHowTo
2. Measure 8 3/8″ from the top of the page. Adhere the non-decorative edge side at that mark.
3. Trim a 3/4″ w strip of Prima Marketing Mommy & me paper. Adhere on top of the Pink Paislee paper.
4. Trim 12″ length of ribbon from your stash. You could add another decorative edge instead.
5. Paint your Thickers for your title. I used Making Memories Sea Foam but brown would work great as well. The fabric soaks up paint well so use a light coat.
6. Place your photos but do not adhere yet. I used one of the smaller photos as a guide to create my journaling box.
7. Stencil your journaling box in pencil and go over it with pen. I used a ruler for straight lines but freehand would give it a carefree look.
8. When you have your photos how you want them- adhere.
9. Add your flower.
10. Once the paint is dry on your alphabet, place the title. Step back and enjoy!

Flower Pot by Michelle Whitlow
“Flower Pot” by Michelle Whitlow
altered flower pot how to 1
You’ll need a flower pot or jar (I found mine in the dollar section at Target). You’ll also need some wooden sticks & Styrofoam.

1) Use a couple glue dots to hold the wooden stick on one of the paper whimsies. Then place some foam pop dots on either side of the stick. I had to double up on mine since the wooden sticks were so thick.
2) Place the other flower on top so that you have a front and back to your flowers.
3) With the bingo card I actually placed the foam dots on the front side of the flower because I wanted it peeking out from behind the bingo card.
4) With the other flowers I used a flower punch for the back.
5) Use circle punches to punch out pictures and place them on the paper whimsies along with other accents. I used a scallop circle punch, butterfly punch, Stickles, buttons & string to accent my flowers.
6) To make the “grass”, cut very thin strips of patterned paper (this is great for using up leftover scraps)
7) Grab small handfuls of the strips of paper & crumple up. The more you crumple, the better it looks (my kids like to help with this step!) Place the Styrofoam in the bottom of the pot (you can adhere it to the bottom with a little glue or glue dots if you want to keep it stable) and then place the “grass” in the flower pot. Put your “flowers” in (be sure to hold them by the stick when placing in the pot, not the photos because you risk damaging them).
8) Decorate the flower pot. For mine I simply used the decorative strip on the Sassafras paper along with the red pom pom trim held on with small glue dots. You could also brush some paint along the pot if you wanted. I kept this one pretty simple!

4. Cut a piece of the Basic Grey French Topiary patterned paper to 5”x2.5”. I used a border punch to get the scallop edge but it would also look nice with out the scallop.  Adhere to center of Basic Grey Wind Chimes patterned paper.
5. Then, place the October Afternoon rub-on of the three birds in the middle of the card.
6. When the chipboard circle is dry, place it on top of the rub-on.
7. Place Jenni Bowlin button on chipboard circle, then place the Maya Road leaf stick pin through the foam adhesive of the button.

1. Use the Scenic Route Olive Avenue patterned paper as your base for the layout (the yellow polka dot side).  Trim a piece of the Basic Grey Wind Chimes patterned paper to 2″x12″ and adhere to the left side of the layout.
2. Doodle a border around the edge of the Scenic Route paper.
3. Trim a piece of the Crate Paper Discretion patterned paper (light blue side) to 1″x12″ and use decorative scissors or a border punch to scallop the edges.  Adhere next to the Basic Grey patterned paper.  I used my fingernail to lift the scallops so there would be some dimension.
4. Adhere 1 4×6 photo approximately 4″ down from the top, and let the scalloped edge slightly overlap the left edge of the photo.
5. Trim a piece of the Basic Grey Stone Wall patterned paper to 1″x4.75″ and adhere under the left bottom edge of the 4×6 photo and let the scalloped edge slightly overlap the left edge.
6.  Adhere a 3″x3″ photo to the right of the Basic Grey Stone Wall patterned paper.
7. Mat a 2″x3″ photo on a 2.25″x3.25″ mat trimmed from the Sea Salt cardstock and adhere next to the the 3″ square photo.
8. Cut  a piece of the Basic Grey Stone Wall patterned paper to 1″x3.25″ and adhere approximately 3 inches down from the top of the layout, with the right side lined up with the right edge of the layout.
9.  Apply your title above the photos.
10.  Write your journaling to the right of the photos.  Apply the long flower rub-ons (there are 2) above and below your journaling.

“May the Force be With You” by Jenn Emch

1. Stagger two 4×6 photos on the Basic Grey Cherry Cola paper.
2. Cut two pieces of the Fancy Pants Lounging patterned paper (orange side) and adhere next
to the photos.
3. Cut two strips of the Fancy Pants Lounging patterned paper (striped side) .5 inches wide and 10
inches long and adhere to the top and bottom of the photos.
4. Next, place your title on the orange Fancy Pants patterned paper. I used the negatives of the Scenic Route alphas for some of my title. I also sanded their edges a bit. Because my title was a bit long, I used the mini Jenni Bowlin rub-ons for part of the title as well.
5. For the finishing touch, I painted two of the Scenic Route chipboard
brackets white and placed them on the top and bottom of the layout.

11. Now you are basically done with your little scrapbook.

12. The fun part is left-to decorate the cover and the pull-outs. I do both the inside and the outside of the pull-out, but that’s totally up to you.

“Part Boy Part Fish” by Candace Prado

1. I started out with the Fancy Pants “Summer Soiree: Glimmer” patterned paper as a background.
2. For the wave effect I pulled out my old Creative Memories wavy cutter and the Bazzill Basics Polka Dot Embossed cardstock in Ocean.  I sanded the cardstock a bit and used a chalk marker to highlight the circles.
3. After adhering the cardstock to the patterned paper, I matted the photo with Kraft cardstock and wrapped the bottom third in jute.
4. I hand cut a few fish from the Cosmo Cricket School’s Out patterned paper and applied each with a small glue dot while allowing the tail fin to flap upwards.
5. I added the title using the package of Scenic Route Aqua Redmond Chipboard alphabet, and topped it off with one more little fishy jumping over the top.
6. A touch more of the blue chalk marker to add a splash of “water” and my favorite red sharpie to complete the title and journaling almost finished it off for me.
7. I wanted add a bit of contrast in the top right corner; so I snipped inwards about two inches and folded each flap back.
8. I added a small piece of left over Kraft cardstock to the back to complete the missing corner.
9. A smudge of blue ink on the Maya Road Postcard Singleton stamp and applied to the Kraft cardstock in the corner was the last step.

Miss You card
“Miss You” by Helen Croft

1. Cut a 12”x4.5”piece from yellow cardstock.
2.
Fold it so that one side is 1” shorter than the other.
3. C
ut a 4.5”x5.25” piece from Cosmo Cricket Something New patterned paper; this will be the background on the card.
4. Cut a 4.5”x1.5” piece from cardstock or patterned paper.  This will make the scalloped border.
5.
Use a punch, decorative scissors or a template to make the scalloped border.  Glue it to the background paper so that it measures 6.5”.
6.
Cut a 3” square from Cosmo Cricket Something Old patterned paper (yellow side).
7.
Cut a 3.25” square from Cosmo Cricket Something New patterned paper (gray side).  The smaller square will be glued on top of this one, so the bigger one will show just a tiny bit.
8.
Glue the squares to the center of the background paper.
9.
Glue a ribbon straight over where the background patterned paper and scalloped border meet.  Fold behind and glue.
10. C
ut another piece from the ribbon, about 4-5” and make a bow around the straight ribbon, trim the ends.
11.
For the flowers, I used the Cricut, but you can use any die cutting tool, punch, or hand cut the flowers.  Cut different shapes and sizes and layer them.  There is no right or wrong.
12.
Finish off with ink, doodling, or stickles if you wish.  Also, I like to bend the flower up for added dimension.  Attach the flowers.
13. L
ast, glue the whole background paper to the card on the shorter side.  The scalloped border will show on the inside of the card.

“I Promise” by Jenn Emch

1. Build this layout on the yellow and grey floral Cosmo Cricket paper.

ut a 12×6 piece of the grey Cosmo Cricket paper and adhere. I used a border punch on both ends to get the scalloped edge.

3. Cut the saying “I promise to love you forever” from the Cosmo Cricket Borders paper and adhere to middle of grey paper.

4. To make flowers I used a flower punch. I punched two flowers from the Cosmo Cricket paper, placed a pop up dot between the two flowers and stuck one of the Maya Road stick pins through the pop up tape. Then I used a Jenni Bowlin pearl flower in the middle.

5. I matted my photo on the yellow cardstock in the kit and placed three of the Pink Paislee brads in the bottom right edge.
6.
I used a Jenni Bowlin label sticker to journal.
