Say Hello to Kari Ann…

September 16th, 2009

Let’s get to know the fabulous Kari Ann Sweeney:

How did you get into scrapbooking?
My mom kept scrapbooks when she was younger and I loved to  flip through them when I was a kid. In high school I would keep tickets and other memorabilia, grab my glue stick and slap them into albums. It just sort of evolved from there. Picking up stickers here, a punch there.

What is your favorite thing to scrap?
Everyday moments. I love stopping time and recording something that is happening RIGHT now so I don’t forget. The things my girls are saying, my current favorite things. I have such a hard time with holiday/event pages.

What is your favorite color combination to scrap with?
I love kraft paper and bright, primary colors in simple patterns. Especially polka dots. I love red too!

When you are in a rut, what do you do to get out of it?
I make a peace offering to the ScrapMojo Fairy and beg for some creativity :) In all seriousness I usually flip through non-scrapbook magazines to get inspired. Another thing that seems to work for me is grabbing a really old photo to change things up a bit. If that fails I’ll participate in a Scrapbook Challenge or Sketch Challenge. That ALWAYS works.

Which of the kits from KGK is your favorite?
That’s a tough call. I love March and September equally.

Where do you look for inspiration?
Blogs and websites. TV commercials.

What is your best scrapbooking tip?
Journal, journal, journal. Especially handwritten journaling. Part of recording your story and memories is your writing. Trust me- even if you hate your handwriting the people who look at your albums when you’re gone will cherish seeing it.

How do you make the most of your kits?
Use your scraps! Make a card or mix and match kits to really maximize your supplies. I rarely use a full sheet of patterned paper on one layout since I like to stretch it out.

Tell us 3 things that might surprise us.
(1) I love movie/entertainment trivia. My head is a vault of useless information from Cary Grant to Ryan Reynolds (2) I have freakishly long toes. (3) I dip my McDonald’s french fries in hot mustard. Soooo delicious!

I love hot mustard, but have never tried it with fries! You may be on to something there! Glad to get to know you a little more :)
