Quilling

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009
Have you ever tried quilling? It’s super simple and I don’t think embellishments could be any cheaper to make! I’m not talking about making big peacocks or anything. The quilling I have tried is on a very basic level. Like these flowers here:

You can use cardstock or double sided patterned paper, but I think solid colors look best. You can also buy precut quilling strips, but that’s totally a waste of money in my opinion.
Dig up your cardstock scraps and cut thin strips, no more than 1/8″ wide. The length is up to you. I usually use strips between 6″ and 8″ long.

I have quilled without a quilling tool. I think I used my paper piercer, but it’s so much easier when you have the right tool. It costs about 3-4 dollars.

Put the very end of your strip into the opening of the quilling tool and start rolling the paper in between your thumb and index finger. Actually when I think about it, you are just holding the paper still while you roll the handle.

Put a tiny bit of glue at the end of your strip when you are done and squeeze to your circle. Before you do this – decide how tight you want the circle to be rolled.
If you wanna make one of those simple flowers I made, you will need one circle in the middle and 5-7 around.
Use fast drying glue and glue the circles to the middle one. And don’t forget to put glue in between them as well.
To make a leaf, you do the same thing, but don’t have the rolls so tight. Then you just pinch one end of the circle to make it look like a leaf.

Easy enough huh?

Look what I bought from Martha Stewart. Doesn’t it look super simple to make yourself?

Looking for some new Kraft Girls…

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

The fabulous design team’s term is up in July, so I am in search of some fresh faces!  Here are the specifics to what I am looking for:

The term will be from August 2009-January 2010.  What I expect from you is 3 layouts and 1 non-layout project (this could be a card, tag, etc.) OR 4 layouts per month.  You will also be responsible for posting to the blog every other week and for providing instructions for one of the projects you create with the kit.  I am looking for people that will be excited about Kraft Girl Kits and want to showcase the kits and promote them to the best of their ability.  This position will be exclusive to Kraft Girl Kits, meaning you cannot be on another design team for another kit club.  You CAN be on a manufacturer’s design team.  The call is only open to applicants in the United States.

The call ends on July 10, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. CST.  Please e-mail the following information to Pam@kraftgirlkits.com with Design Team Call as the subject:

Good Luck and please feel free to use the contact form here if you have any questions!

Fun with titles

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Hey, Jenn here. I just wanted to share with you some fun ways to create titles for your layouts.

In the first example I used a couple of different things to make my title more fun and interesting. Since my title was long, I broke it up a bit. I knew I couldn’t make the title using all chipboard letters so I picked out the two words I wanted to highlight and used those letters. I also incorporated some of the negatives.  These not only make the title more interesting but come in handy when you run out of letters. I sanded their edges a bit too.  To finish the title, I used the Jenni Bowlin mini rub-ons. They were the perfect size to complete my title.

On this layout, I had the help of a die cutting machine. Sometimes a big title is just what you need to complete your page. I used the Making Memories Slice and cut the letters from a piece of the Fancy Pants paper.  I love how this one turned out!a-day-at-the-beach

I hope I have given you a new idea or two to try on your next title.  We would love to see your creations as well so don’t forget to link us up!

Using Scraps!

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Hi all!  Danielle here today!   If you are anything like me, you love to use every last inch of your product!  I hate wasting!  Throwing away a little square of my beloved patterned paper just seems wrong to me!!!  I do all I can to reuse what is left after creating a page.  And Pam packs the Kraft Girl kits soooo full of goodies, I always have lots of little pieces left!

Most of us likely use our scraps to make cards.  I try to do this immediately after I finish a page.  Everything that is out on my scrap table already coordinates!  So I whip up a quick card!   On the card below I used just a small piece of ribbon I had left over!  And the circle paper is actually two small strips – not one big rectangle.

On this layout I got a little more creative.  Remember the amazing, yellow flower shaped paper by Crate Paper in this month’s kit?  Well, U punched the die cut pieces out of the edge and used them to create a small flower near my title.  It was the perfect dash of yellow I needed to tie the layout together!  The best part is that the pieces were already cut in petal shape – no free hand cutting required!!!!!

I would love to see what you all create from the scraps left over from your kits!!!!!  Leave a comment with a link to your creation so we can check it out!!!!
