This is how I do it

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

I’ve been asked by a few about how I make my layouts look so good online.  So I figured I’d give you a little peek into what it is I do.  First, it helps that I have this AWESOME camera.  Sure helps alot.  Anyway, I make sure I place my layout in a good well lit place.  I usually place it on my kitchen counter because of the way the sun comes in the window.   So then I take a picture and make sure I have a good focus.  So here’s the original photo before I start editing it.

Next I go into my Photoshop program and crop the photo.  I usually leave a bit around the edges because that is how I like it.  Some people will crop it exactly around the layout so you can’t see anything around the edges.

Now I usually will edit the color, contrast, etc. and resize and sharpen for web and this is how it turns out.

A little ribbon fun

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

I’m a collector of ribbon. Even before I started scrapbooking I used to hoard ribbon. I love those pretty strands of fabric – the mixture of colors, the textures, everything! I actually had to forbid myself from buying more because I had such a collection! Gradually I’ve been using it more and more but I’m always looking for fun ideas on using ribbon. The June kit had TWO fun yards of Fancy Pants ribbon – I have to say though, that the Summer Soiree Woven ribbon was my favorite. I tried a technique that was new to me — making a ruffle. I’m not brave enough to actually ribbon directly onto my photo and layout so I stitched the ribbon ruffle on a 1 inch wide strip of cardstock

ribbonI looped the end of the ribbon over the edge of the cardstock strip and stitched it down the middle, gathering the ribbon into a ruffle as I went along. When I was finished I was able to insert the end of the photo between the ribbon and the cardstock on one side, and insert some patterned paper between the ribbon and the cardstock on the other side making it look like I had sewn them directly onto my layout:
