Jill Deiling
sbprofilepicHi!  My name is Jill Deiling.  I’m 24 years old and I live in Oklahoma.  I’m originally from Alaska and will always be an Alaskan girl at heart, I miss it very much!  I live with my 3 year old son, Alex and my boyfriend, John.  They are my favorite people in the world and they are definitely my favorite scrapbook subjects!  I get to stay at home taking care of my son most of the time, but I often help out with my boyfriend’s parent’s cable business as well.  During my free time you’ll find me playing with my son, of course, shopping (I’m a shopaholic!), cleaning (I’m also a clean freak!) or scrapbooking.  Scrapbooking is my absolute favorite hobby.  I’ve been scrapbooking since high school and I have never stopped since.  I don’t get much sleep because of it, I often stay up late at night just to scrapbook, but it’s definitely worth it! :)

Sew what?

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Hi there! It’s Paula and it’s my first post on the KGK blog and I was inspired to sew because of this month’s kit that I thought it would be a perfect topic for a blog post. The May kit includes a Bazzill Basics Formal Flourishes Stitching template and a package of cream embroidery floss – what better way to start stitching on your layouts! In the past, I’ve shied away from stitching on my layouts because I’m afraid it will take too long, I’ll mess it up and it would just look funny. I’ve learned a few tricks that helped me get over that fear and I thought I would share them here!

  1. Stitching templates are very good things. At first I thought, why use a template? Just poke holes where you want to stitch! But, I’ve found that stitching is a whole lot easier using the template – your stitches are evenly spaced, where they are supposed to be, and it really speeds up the process. Another option I’ve found is this site that has free stitching patterns – stitching templates.
  2. I typically use 3 stands of floss when stitching. Floss usually has 6 strands so just pull apart 3 strands to use and you can use the other 3 strands another time.
  3. Find a needle with a large eye but not so large that it will make a very large gap when stitching.
  4. Use a paper piercer to pre-punch the holes for the stitching. My most recent discovery is to use a foam pad (I used an upside-down mouse pad) underneath my paper when poking the holes.
  5. I like to tape the floss at the back of the paper once I start stitching – I’ve found if I tie a knot and pull, sometimes I pull it through the paper and make a large hole (something you will want to avoid!).

Here are a couple of examples of stitching using the May kit and the Bazzill templates:

Tutorial for paper purses from Helen

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

These cute purses are so easy to make! It won’t take you more than 30 minutes.

Wouldn’t they be a perfect gift for mom. Put a gift certificate inside to her favorite store/restaurant.

And don’t forget that this week is “Teacher Appreciation Week”

Print out this template on a 8 1/2″ x 11″ cardstock. Cut them out and trace to a paper of your choice. It looks really pretty with double sided paper and I like it best if the lid is a solid color, but that’s just me;)

When you are done cutting you will have 4 pieces like this.

Fold the sides so it looks like a “M”.

Put glue on both sides with fast drying adhesive.
Glue the sides to the purse (after you folded the purse in half) with the narrow side down. You might have to trim the sides a bit on top after you’re done.

Glue the lid to the back of the purse. Punch holes on the sides and add eyelets.

Take a ribbon through one of the holes and make a little knot. Do the same with the other hole.
On the front of the purse, add a button, brad or whatever you like.
Last – put 5/8″ ” Velcro round with sticky back” to the inside of the lid and the other part of it to the purse.
Inking, doodling,Stickles…it would all look good here. Be creative!!

“Grin” by Paula Gilarde

1. This is based on the May Sketch.
2. Journal directly onto the Kraft cardstock (starting about 4 inches down and 5 inches over).
3. Cut strips from Basic Grey Elderflower paper and Cosmo Cricket Everafter Borders paper and position to the left of journaling.
4. Add 3 pictures, slightly overlapping, under journaling and to the right of the patterned paper strips.
5. Cut 2 stars from Cosmo Cricket Everafter Borders paper and add to layout, one on the patterned paper strips and one on the bottom right corner of the bottom picture (see 3 steps down for this part).
6. Add label under top left of patterned paper strips.
7. Using stitching template add swirls over the patterned papers.
8. Add title overlapping the top photo.
9. Add large star to lower right of photos using dimensional adhesive, embellish with pin and label.
10. Finally add 3 brads to label on top left of the layout.

Miss You card
“Miss You” by Helen Croft

1. Cut a 12”x4.5”piece from yellow cardstock.
2.
Fold it so that one side is 1” shorter than the other.
3. C
ut a 4.5”x5.25” piece from Cosmo Cricket Something New patterned paper; this will be the background on the card.
4. Cut a 4.5”x1.5” piece from cardstock or patterned paper.  This will make the scalloped border.
5.
Use a punch, decorative scissors or a template to make the scalloped border.  Glue it to the background paper so that it measures 6.5”.
6.
Cut a 3” square from Cosmo Cricket Something Old patterned paper (yellow side).
7.
Cut a 3.25” square from Cosmo Cricket Something New patterned paper (gray side).  The smaller square will be glued on top of this one, so the bigger one will show just a tiny bit.
8.
Glue the squares to the center of the background paper.
9.
Glue a ribbon straight over where the background patterned paper and scalloped border meet.  Fold behind and glue.
10. C
ut another piece from the ribbon, about 4-5” and make a bow around the straight ribbon, trim the ends.
11.
For the flowers, I used the Cricut, but you can use any die cutting tool, punch, or hand cut the flowers.  Cut different shapes and sizes and layer them.  There is no right or wrong.
12.
Finish off with ink, doodling, or stickles if you wish.  Also, I like to bend the flower up for added dimension.  Attach the flowers.
13. L
ast, glue the whole background paper to the card on the shorter side.  The scalloped border will show on the inside of the card.

“I Promise” by Jenn Emch

1. Build this layout on the yellow and grey floral Cosmo Cricket paper.
2. C
ut a 12×6 piece of the grey Cosmo Cricket paper and adhere. I used a border punch on both ends to get the scalloped edge.

3. Cut the saying “I promise to love you forever” from the Cosmo Cricket Borders paper and adhere to middle of grey paper.

4. To make flowers I used a flower punch. I punched two flowers from the Cosmo Cricket paper, placed a pop up dot between the two flowers and stuck one of the Maya Road stick pins through the pop up tape. Then I used a Jenni Bowlin pearl flower in the middle.

5. I matted my photo on the yellow cardstock in the kit and placed three of the Pink Paislee brads in the bottom right edge.
6.
I used a Jenni Bowlin label sticker to journal.
