Meet our FABULOUS guest designer for March, Emilie Ahern:
emmy-small

I am a wife of Matt and a mommy of two little red-headed girls. I have been scrapping since 1997, when I made a small travel journal documenting my first trip to Europe. My passion is journaling and scrapping with graphic and bold colors.

I have an unhealthy addiction to… Project Runway, creme brulee, the color orange, blogging, simple carbohydrates and cool Indie music. I know every single word to every single song on the ABBA Gold album. It’s a crowning achievement of my life and I’m not ashamed to admit it.

I have been blessed to have my work appear in various publications and to be on many teams where I can share my passion for art with others. I am getting ready to teach some classes for Big Picture Scrapbooking and I am also the Co-owner and Editor In Chief for a new site called The Scrap Review, where we honestly review scrapbooking products.

Here are some projects Emilie created with the March kit:

I know sometimes you feel like you title is a little blah.  Well here’s a quick tip on how to spruce it up and using everything from your kit!

1. Choose something from your patterned paper that you think would make your title stand out.  Like a specific detail, a box, or a shape.  (I chose a cloud in the American Crafts paper provided in your kit).
2. Next, take your exact-o knife or scissors and cut out your pattern.
3. Now adhere it to your layout wherever you would like your title to be.
4. Next thing I did to help my title stand out is, I chose some of the paper ribbon provide and accordion folded it the length of the cloud.  This really makes the title POP.
5. Decide your title name and apply it over the paper ribbon.  I chose to not press my letters completely down to give it some dimension.
6. This step is optional but you may embellish around your title to give it even more ZING by using buttons, brads, or whatever you have handy.

1.  I used a sheet the Scenic Route paper as my background and placed an 8×8 square of kraft cardstock in the center.

2.  I trimmed my photos to about 3.5×5 and placed them on my layout.

3.  I covered the chipboard shape with some Basic Grey patterned paper – first I traced the shape and cut around it to fit. After I adhered it to the shape I filed the edges to remove any extra paper.

4.  I put a strip of crepe ribbon along the top and embellished it with the shape and finished it with the title.

5.  I added one of the Jenni Bowlin date label stickers to the top right of the page.

6.  For the journaling I cut out three cloud shapes from the American Crafts paper. I scanned the shapes and in Photoshop I positioned my journaling to fit on the shapes (using a different text layer for each line). I printed a test version of the journaling and using repositionable adhesive I stuck the clouds onto the test paper and printed the journaling onto the clouds. I added the journaling clouds around the photo.

To get the most out of the kit and not to waste those yummy papers, I used a solid cardstock for the background. Pick any color, since it will not show.

·         Glue a 3”x12” piece of the yellow Crate Paper to the bottom of the cardstock.

·         Glue a 3”x12” piece of the striped October Afternoon paper to the top.

To get the curved shape paper, I made a template by drawing on cardboard and then cut it out.

·         Trace the template on the back of the lime green October Afternoon paper. Cut out.

·         Trace the template on the back of the yellow Crate Paper. Cut out.

·         Glue an aprox. 2” piece of the yellow curved paper under an aprox.  7 ½” green curved paper. Let the yellow paper show 1/2”.

·         Glue the green/yellow papers to the background in the middle of the page.

I used (2) 4”x 6” photos, but you can use any size and number of photos.

I matted the photos with the black cardstock.

I used a notebook paper from the Chipboard Album to write the journaling on. I also matted it with black cardstock.

·         Tuck the journaling under a photo.

To make the bottom border, I cut out circles from the Scenic Route paper. I also painted a chipboard shape.

·         Attach some of the circles with 3D foam.

·         Add buttons and chipboard.

·         Make one of the circles into a flower, by adding hand cut stem and leaves.

·         Doodle stem, leaves and chipboard.

Cut out some clouds from the American Crafts paper and doodle on them. Attach them to the striped October Afternoon paper on top. Use 3D foam.

·         Add your title and rub-ons along the top of the curved cut out.

4. Adhere photo.
5. Place Jenni Bowlin labels under photo.
6. Cover chipboard heart with red October Afternoon paper.
7. Cut two strips of Jenni Bowlin Crepe paper and adhere to left side of

1)Use Kraft paper as background.
2)Draw a wavy line on the green paper and cut it out.  Adhere it to the bottom of the layout.  Stitch around the edges of the green paper.
3) Cut a circle from the bright orange paper.  Stitch 2 circles in the center and place a button in the middle.  Use foam adhesive and put it in the top left corner.
4)  Cut out clouds from the patterned paper and adhere along the top with foam adhesive.
5) Attach blue buttons randomly.  Stitch circles around them.
6) Attach letter stickers for title.
